Tips for getting the best Kill Devil Hills vacation property experience:
Getting the most from your budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Kill Devil Hills. To get the best vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
How to choose the best rental home in the Kill Devil Hills area:
- Start by selecting a vacation week and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Garber Harbor in Colington Harbor Waterfront Canal Hot Tub Jimmy Buffett Bar has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before booking the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- If there's an individual Kill Devil Hills destination you are enamored with, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.
Advice for a great stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- To make sure no damages are linked to your visit, note any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the property manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a excellent stay? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
