Tips to get the optimal vacation home experience:
When to visit Kill Devil Hills & When to reserve a rental home:
- The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Reserve your rental property in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, property management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guides that include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning, selecting, and booking the perfect Kill Devil Hills rental:
- Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Charming OBX Getaway - Steps from the Beach! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills rental home search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you reserve your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Have a great stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
- To make certain that damages are not attributed to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the rental manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- At departure, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a fantastic stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
